OUR PROGRAMS...
The WFVZ has traditionally been
a research institution, and its materials have contributed to
more than 4,000 projects since its inception in 1956. The Foundation's
resources have played key roles in understanding diverse topics
such as avian systematics and evolution, the effects of environmental
contamination, the effects of physiological changes on eggshell
structure and thinning, bird distribution and habitat use, and
long term environmental changes.
The Foundation has also had a long history of conducting field
research on birds in different parts of the world, but especially
emphasizing tropical regions. Its projects have involved the
documentation of the distribution of bird species,
as well as their breeding characteristics. Our current projects
emphasize the link between population dynamics and habitat alteration,
and we try to conduct projects that will lead directly to the
conservation of habitat and birds.
We have also recently started an education program, with an
emphasis on tours of our collection materials for the general
public, schools, and civic groups. In addition, we offer
ornithology, oology, and museum curation technique courses for
biology students, professional biologists, and the general public.
